Polish military formation, formed on August 27, 1914; The first company was formed by the First Polish Company, formed on 3 August 1914 in Cracow from the initiative of Józef Piłsudski. Established on August 16, 1914 by the Supreme National Committee. They were a separate formation of the Austro-Hungarian Army. They focused on Polish paramilitary organizations, including branches of the Polish Rifle Association and Polish Rifle Groups. The formal basis for the formation of legions was the order of the Austrian command of 27 August 1914, in which the formation of the Eastern Legion and the Western Legion was established.
